Bondi Active’s Guide to Watching the 2024 Olympics in Style

Bondi Active’s Guide to Watching the 2024 Olympics in Style

The 2024 Olympics are zooming around the corner faster than a sprinter in the 100-metre race, and the buzz down under is electric! Whether you're a hardcore sports junkie or just in it for the spirit of global unity, it's time to prep your viewing party wardrobe for an unforgettable experience.

Here’s the lowdown on catching all the Olympic action in true Bondi Active  style.

Meet Australia’s Champions

Strap in to cheer for Australia’s finest as they chase Olympic glory! Watch out for legends like Emma McKeon, who is an Olympic gold medalist and will lead a 44-member Australian swimming squad, alongside Kaylee Mckeown and Ariarne Titmus. Also watch out for Nicola Olyslager, who is a Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medallist and will be headlining a 75-member Australian athletics team.

Cassiel Rousseau is one to watch this year in the men’s diving competition. He made his Olympic debut in Tokyo, qualifying for the final and finishing eighth, and he also won gold in the men’s 10m individual at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The Australian Men’s Basketball team, the Boomers, won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, and Patty Mills and Joe Ingles are two key players to watch this year.

These athletes aren’t just competing—they’re showcase the unwavering Aussie spirit and enduring pride on the global stage.

Must-Watch Sports

The 2024 Olympics has a sport for absolutely everyone - from the precision of archery to the thrill of BMX racing.

Marvel at the grace of synchronised swimmers who make treading water look like a dance, and the sheer bravery of pole vaulters soaring through the air.

Make sure to also catch the speed and strategy in track events, from the explosive sprints to the gruelling marathons, as well as witness the grit in climbing and skateboarding, making their recent debuts as Olympic sports.

Don't forget the team sports either—basketball, soccer, and the fierce competitiveness of rugby sevens, where the drama of the matches is only eclipsed by the intensity of the penalty shootouts.

Where to Watch: Sydney’s Best Spots

Turn your day hanging out at the pilates studio and cafes around Bondi with your friends into a peak Olympic experience watching it live on the big screen at the Coogee Bay Hotel in the garden outside.

If you prefer heading into the city, Cheers Bar on George Street will feature the games. It is a 24 hour bar, so you can watch it at any time of the day! Or celebrate in Darling Harbour at the Tumbalong Park Sound Shell, a dedicated space to come together and the atmosphere is said to be ‘electric’.

TV Channels and Timings

Miss nothing with Channel 9, the official broadcaster for the 2024 Olympics in Australia. They’ve got coverage thicker than a Bondi Active hoodie, and you can even catch up on every flip, kick, and spike through 9now.

Stan Sport is also broadcasting the Olympics events live and on-demand this year, and this includes full replays, highlights and daily talk shows!

Make sure you don’t miss out on the Opening Ceremony on the 26th of July 2024, that is, for the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the ceremony will not be held in a stadium, rather it will take place in the heart of Paris along the main artery, the Serine. It is sure to make for a spectacular opening ceremony The official closing ceremony will wrap things up 16 days later, on August 11, and it promises to be just as impressive as the kick-off.

Check out the full day-by-day schedule of each event here and you won’t miss a thing: https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/schedule/24-july
